The past month was spent meeting up with family and dear friends. In many cases, it’s been decades (plural) since the last time we’ve seen some folks. We can’t be that old already?! In all cases, it was a treasured time to reconnect.
The Kelly side of the family met for a picnic on a yet another perfect summer day with lots of us arriving from far away. The last reunion of this size has been at least 10 years ago and it was great to see so many cousins who we grew up with and looked up to, figuratively & literally (at 5’8”, I’m one of the runts of the family). Everyone looked great, especially aunts and uncles who reminded us what good genes are made of.
Labor Day weekend brought another reunion with the Joneses with cousins flying in from the West Coast. We all got to meet the newest member of the clan, Nara. Cell phone cameras at the ready, she charmed us all. With this group, everyone has each others’ backs going way back. No one will deny that these gatherings might get loud...so you just have to talk louder of course!
A trip to Michigan gave us a taste of Fall weather and we had to borrow a few fleece shirts to stay warm. We enjoyed visiting Dad & Barb, all of the local flavors of great MI beer and food, and continued to watch a reviving Flint turn from an auto-town to a college-town. The kids gave great-uncle Mark a football workout, Boston photo-bombed a siblings picture and we celebrated Anne’s birthday with her again this year.
It’s getting too cold for us to stay up north any longer. This is the first day on Reach where the temperature is not going above 70 degrees F. Time to head south!
