Mini-boatshow

As summer was winding down, we made the rounds to say farewell to family and friends.  Our only goal was to get out before the Annapolis boat show, not that we don’t love it, but we wanted to beat the crowds on the water and for the boat migration south.   A secondary goal was to head out before it got too cold, which we failed at miserably in the end.

One benefit of our Annapolis berth was that folks could visit Reach over the summer, our own mini-boatshow!  It was nice to have visitors who could now visualize the living space in our floating home.  Wish we could’ve arranged for more visits but the temperatures have hit a low for us.  We are all provisioned-up and it is time to go.

For those who have owned their own boats it was a time to talk shop.  Duncan was checking out our solar panels and Mark Z. was remembering his time sailing with his dad on the Bay.

Some got to test out our new dinghy.  Kristin, Chad, Em & Ry stopped by before and just after we got settled into our dock.

Apparently, Ryan’s generation can quickly pick up complex navigation electronics.

Some brought back memories of a previous life on a house-boat.

Cousins Mark, Maryanne and Annette stopped down for a fun afternoon of reminiscing.

They’re still members of the Eastern Yacht club where their family lived when growing up.

Some were onboard just before or after they were born and got to re-visit Reach.  The last time the girls visited Mady wasn’t walking and Christina was pregnant with Lily.  That’s quite the reality check when you see how fast time flies.

Some stopped by for a cocktail and to socialize...

Aunt Mary Lou & Bob got a taste of the most beautiful… and hottest day of summer.

Leigh & Beck came over to scope out the boat for stow-away opportunities, before a hopping sisters’ night with Kristin on the town in Eastport.

Some have had boats named after them and others had never been on a boat before.  Cris remembered sailing her dad’s boat, the Cristina.

Jordie hadn’t been on a boat before, yet appreciated the simplicity of our self-sufficient home even if on a different scale than farm life.  Kinsley even took a few of her first steps on-board Reach, including on the trampoline!
