August is typically our ‘vacation’ time when we travel to the States for a change of pace. This year we brought Reach with us, so after a few days sailing up the Chesapeake Bay, anchoring in a few bights to watch fantastic sunsets, we arrived in Annapolis MD. The weather has been so lovely we can not believe that this was ever the hazy, hot and humid locale of my youth. With temperatures in the 80*s and humidity hovering around 50% we have had to break out the blankets at night when it dips under 70*F.
We’re lucky to be based in Spa Creek for a while after being able to sublet our friends’ dock that just happens to fit a Manta 42 perfectly ~ thanks Scott & Tina!
It’s a peaceful location close to downtown Annapolis and Eastport.
Dating back to high school days, it is always great to re-connect with friends… some of whom we haven’t seen for 29 years, right Mark Ziegenfuss?! We never miss the chance to see Cris each year, well-timed for when the crab season starts in ernest.
Ryan jumped at the chance to hang with us for the weekend and go for a sail.
He took the helm all weekend and now we’d like to make him a permanent crew member although we might have to wait until he’s 15 (yep, we’re really lazy).
I think we even got a smile out of him :0)
Kristin, Chad & Emily also came for a visit and then we headed up their way for some drama camp, volleyball, baseball, pool time… whoosh time flies!
Talk about busy, Brian & Christina are full-out each Saturday at a Farmer’s Market booth for their YogaFresh store, probably because their juices are fantastic. We were able to get in a hike at Gunpowder Falls on a rare day off with Mady & Lily, wading in the fresh cool water.
Mom & Dad and friends joined us for a pleasant drifter sail on the Bay. Sailing can be pretty relaxing, especially with 8 knots of wind… It’s really hard to believe how perfect the weather has been this summer ~ no complaints here!!
