Out for a day of picture-taking, Nick, Jose (Jedi) & I took our best camera gear and were glad to have it during this excursion. As always in Panama, we had plenty of discoveries and were satisfied that we each had a few good shots on our cameras. I finally caught a still-shot of the active oak tiger butterfly, as well as a timid, juvenile mangrove black hawk.
On the way back to the marina, we came across a brown-throated, three-toed sloth about 20 feet up in a tree. We could see she had a baby in her chest and I thought to myself that there was a lot of movement going on up there for a sloth. She was first curled up in a ball, next stretched herself out upside down and then pulled herself back up and looked at us. But it wasn't until we got back to look at our pictures that we saw the umbilical cord! She was giving birth as we were taking pictures - unbelievable!
