Bird fix

This past summer has been focused on “The List”.  The end of current boat projects is now in sight and I’m even starting to believe that we’ll be back in our floating home in the near future.  To stay grounded, I need an occasional nature fix since we’re not used to living indoors and spending so much time in a car!

We visited friends and family in Florida and Virginia on our drive to Maryland, where we’re on schedule to catch up with doctors appointments and old friends.  A perfect opportunity to wind down and get a change of scenery.

The few chances I had to go on a nature walk in both Florida and Maryland, I’ve been able to expand my bird-list and identify new [to me] avians, including a first owl sighting.  Some were pretty elusive and my senses & camera worked hard in the dense trees.  Others, like a red-tailed hawk, flew by too quickly for a photo!  Here are a few favorites to share.

Black-bellied whistling ducks

Limpkin eating a snail

Little blue heron

Ovenbird

American Robin

Wood thrush

Gray-cheeked thrush

Unidentified warbler

Carolina wren

Carolina chickadee

Northern flicker

Red-bellied woodpecker

Downy woodpecker

Cardinal

Catbird

The scenery is not so bad either!
