Road-trip revisited

We had so much fun on our previous Tikal trip with friends Bob & Jeannie (Island Dreamin') and Lenny & Sue (Windancer) that we planned another trip together, this time heading southwest to Guatemala City and its highlands of Antigua and Lake Atitlan.

It turns out that traveling with six people works out very well for our tourist-mode type of trip.

We again took the "mid-budget" approach and this was just the right amount of people to allow us to hire and split the costs of private vans and launchas for the most part.

Transportation shuttles ran between $10-$25 per person and hotel rooms between $30-$50 per night.  All in all, reasonable costs for our mini-vacation.

We noted that this trip could be done on even more of an economy budget if desired...  IF you can resist the market gauntlet!

After all, tuk-tuk races run only 5 quetzales ($0.65) per person!

Luckily for all of us, we get along well and are an amicable band of travelers.  Being cruisers, we also have our fair share of tall tales to tell, much to our mutual amusement!

Guatemala is a special country.  Its people are friendly to visitors and there is significant cultural diversity to encounter and appreciate.  We covered a lot of ground over this 10-day trip, so I'll use the next few blog entries to give you a flavor of the places that we visited.

We have also grown fond it its grande "Gallo" cervezas!
