Next stop on our US tour, Michigan. More fun family visits this time staying with Mark’s dad Jim & Barb, getting a taste of coney dogs ~ Flint-style, of course. Another week of quality-time with parents (& being spoiled).
Mark spent the week walking down memory lane as we frequented a revitalized downtown Flint both day and night… And yes, it is quite safe these days!
The Flint neighborhood where Mark lived for 4 years now contains a National Landmark in the Durant-Dort Carriage Company house.
This area used to contain a huge complex of factories, offices and homes of the company that gave birth to General Motors.
The old apartment building that Mark & Spencer lived in did not make it, however.
There is a new Farmer’s Market with good fruits & veggies and we passed by the old Capitol Theater (thee-A-tor) and of course the Torch.
We returned to the Torch on a bar-hopping tour with Mark’s sisters the night of Anne’s birthday celebration to take in the sights (& smells) of a college bar… Being far from our college years, we paid dearly for our tour the next day.
Our nephews live in the area and we even had a chance to see the grand-nephews playing in their first ever pee-wee football game.
They did great in their little bobble-head helmets.
The weather was gorgeous and by the end of the week we felt the first signs of fall with crisp cold air ~ Brrrr. It was great spending time with everyone!
