It is so nice to be back in the water! The first few snorkels we’ve had in the Bahamas were in comfortable 78˚F water temperatures. Despite my worry that I’d be cold if the water wasn’t in the 80’s, my shorty wetsuit did the trick for now. I have a new full length wetsuit just in case it gets any colder though!
Once I had my camera battery charged (!!) and ready to go, it was off to visit my underwater friends. It only takes a small patch reef to be full of life as soft corals add color to the landscape.
Fish were abundant ~ grunts, snappers, angelfish, triggerfish, beaugregories, gobies, butterflyfish (juvies), you name it.
One of our snorkels was launched from a small harbor that was full of mangrove upside-down jellyfish.
Now that I’m much better at knowing what I’m seeing and where to look, the fish behaviors, cleaning stations and hidey-holes all jump out at you.
This piece of underwater debris had an octopus’ garden sitting next to it ~ and there she was…
There are plenty of Nassau grouper and hogfish almost everywhere you look. The juveniles pose for the camera and the older ones are fair game for dinner.
