One of the best parts about having visitors onboard is being able to share with them the experience of life on a boat. Just as important is what you get back from them ~ seeing things through fresh eyes. As long as you’re open to learning, this happens naturally with friends & family all of the time.
It was great to have Kelly visiting us to see our world from her perspective ~ let’s just say that we’ll never look at palm trees the same way again! It’s all too easy to take things for granted that you see all of the time. Coconut palms on picturesque islands don’t get more common than in the San Blas.
The first thing Kelly did when we were on our first beach walk was grab the camera and take this shot. Did I mention that she is an artist? Unbelieveable! What beautiful colors, textures and lighting captured in the blink of a shutter.
From then on we were in-tune with the subtle variations of palm fronds on each outing, noticing their shapes, colors and contrasts in different settings.
Like all artists, Kelly undoubtedly has her own style and she was on the lookout for color “pop” in this wild, natural world. On the surface, the jungle is mostly shades of GREEN and the reefs predominately in the spectrum of yellow to brown (where’s the color?).
Luckily the birds (& fish) we saw come with their own distinctive colors…
...crimson crests
…irridescent feathers
…yellow highlights
Turns out that color also depends on where you look and how you see into nature. Kelly soon found the color “pop” of new contrasts, shapes and intricate textures in even the blandest of colors. And this was only above the water!
I soon took a page from Kelly’s book and tried out fresh camera angles with my newly opened eyes…
Below the water’s surface was a whole new realm to explore!
I was fun to see Kelly thrill at the discovery of reef corals, swimming fishes…
...and critters that are not so obvious like a tiny, camouflaged lettuce sea slug and mini-flounder!
It was so cool to share ideas with Kelly, be able to spend time together & take a piece of inspiration back with each of us!
