It’s wetsuit weather now as the water temps dip below 80 degrees Fahrenheit. This is winter in tropics ~ Brrr. The cool waters reduce algae growth and become crystal clear. Great visibility for snorkeling and fishing ~ we are all eating well!
We made a few stops at some favorite spots in the Holandes ~ absolutely love this view from the back porch. The resident Kuna kids (& dog) greeted us and the families were in need of water and fish, which we traded for a coconut.
The increased visibility is perfect for lots of underwater picture taking, creating a huge backlog of photos. Everything catches your attention now that you can see over 100 feet through the water.
Narrowing in on subjects, it seems as if they let me get closer and closer every time… although some you might not want to get too close to.
A few new, interesting underwater discoveries include a molted peppermint shrimp carcass in the tube sponges…
… a butterflyfish entering the sponges for a cleaning by peppermint shrimp
…a mantis shrimp scurrying over the rocks
…a damselfish getting cleaned by a spotted cleaner shrimp
… a teeny, tiny flagfin blenny hiding among the star zoanthids on a sponge
… a reef tunicate next to a rough file clam enjoying the currents
…strawberry tunicates doing the same
….a black hamlet with its eery orange eyes
... a bar jack hovering over a stingray hoping for scraps
…and a giant anemone partially closed.
